MISTAKE:
giving my guests disposable butter knives to cut chicken breasts.

THE STORY:
It was my brothers welcome home party with about 15 family & friends. I had plastic forks, knives & spoons wrapped up in napkins tied with twine, leftover from a previous party. I thought perfect they were ready to go, the work was already done. BIG MISTAKE: plastic butter knives do not cut chicken breasts very well!
FIX
There was no well disguised fix I could think of at the time. I apologized and handed my guests a better tool to cut their chicken, a steak knife.
LESSON LEARNED:
Now in this party scenario not having steak knives out wasn’t really a big problem because I easily remedied the situation by handing out knives. However if your party was even twice the size you may not have 30 steak knives ready to go without planning ahead.
My advise is to take a minute and think over how you would eat everything on your menu. Make sure you will have everything your guests will need to eat their food. The utensils should be the appropriate serving utensils.
As I share, my party planning mistakes, please feel free to share yours. We can all learn from each other and I welcome your stories.
